Cochin International Airport is an International airport serving the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. Located at Nedumbassery, about 25 kilometers northeast of the city center, Cochin International Airport is the first of its kind, developed under a public-private partnership model in India.

The original airstrip in Cochin was built in the year 1936. Since independence, the Indian Navy operated Cochin Airport, though it permitted civilian aircraft to use the facility. The Gulf boom in the 1980s called for a massive up-gradation of the Naval Airport to operate bigger aircraft. However, the National Airport Authority (NAA), the owner and operator of all Civil Airports in the country, expressed its inability to invest further in an Airport owned by the Indian Navy. Subsequently, during a meeting chaired by the Union Civil Aviation Minister Sri. Madhav Rao Scindia, in October 1991, the Government of Kerala was advised to identify a suitable location for constructing a new Airport at Cochin.

Cochin, Kerala’s commercial and industrial hub, is easily accessible by road, rail, air, and sea. The Cochin International Airport is strategically located with easy access to all three National Highways passing through Kerala (NH 47, NH 17, and NH 49). It is only a half-an-hour drive away from the city. The main Railway line from Kanyakumari to Delhi is adjacent to the airport, situated between Alwaye and Angamaly Railway Stations. The Cochin Sea Port, one of the biggest in the country, is also situated close by.

Cochin International Airport Lost and Found

IAL has a ‘Lost and Found’ section to deal with misplaced and lost baggage. If a passenger has ‘missed’ or lost the baggage in the ‘onward journey’ he can report the matter to this department and a fast response can be expected.
